Found objects

When we bought the house, it had not been well taken care of, and had been empty for at least a year. We understand that the owners prior to the last had beautiful gardens, and kept up the house nicely. But 10 or so years of neglect, junk accumulation, and non-maintenance plus invasive blackberries, weeks and grapevines = huge corners of the yard that were overgrown. When we bought the house, there was snow on the ground. It was interesting (careful choice of words there) to see, 2 months later, what was under all that accumulation.

We gathered up the junk, cut down hundreds of blackberries, and tried to see what might be salvageable. Into the dump and burn piles went more rotting blue tarps than you can imagine, several wooden garage doors (why were they there?), boxes of rotted holiday ornaments (sad), and various brush, vines and scrap wood (I know I'm forgetting stuff here). Into the save pile went a strange combo of items: a wooden easel, a rusted rototiller (garden art?), a cat carrier (you never know), a bird cage (not sure why), many shovels, picks, hoes, etc and at least 10 hoses. The guy had a thing for hoses and tarps, to be sure.

But my favorite find was the old metal kitchen cabinet, complete with the porcelain sink/drainbord combo. This was completely obscured by about 10 feet of blackberry vines, and would've gone totally unnoticed had I not been on a tear about clearing them out.

We hope to paint or powder coat the base and reassemble it for use as a sink in the laundry room. NEAT!
